Pitt keeps rolling, downs UConn
NCAA Basketball Betting Lines
01/13/2010 - Hartford, CT (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Ashton Gibbs and Brad Wanamaker each scored 19 points and No. 16 Pittsburgh continued to build its early Big East resume with a 67-57 conquest of 15th-ranked Connecticut at XL Center.
Gilbert Brown chipped in 11 points for the Panthers (14-2, 4-0 Big East), whose seven straight victories include wins at Syracuse and Cincinnati last week.
Stanley Robinson posted 19 points and Kemba Walker added 10 points, seven rebounds and seven assists for the Huskies (11-5, 2-3), who were coming off a 72-69 letdown at Georgetown over the weekend. Jerome Dyson netted 14 points on 5-of-14 shooting in defeat.
Pitt led 52-51 at the five-minute mark before Gibbs scored from behind the arc and on an up-and-under layup off a nice feed from Wanamaker.
UConn was never able to pull closer than four despite the Panthers missing the front end of a 1-and-1 on consecutive possessions with under a minute to play, the last occurring with 39 seconds left and the Panthers on top 61-57.
The Huskies failed to take advantage with a turnover at the other end, and Wanamaker made four straight from the line to seal another impressive road win.
Back-to-back three-pointers from Brown and Gibbs had the Panthers on top 18-8 in the early portion of the game.
Robinson's 13 first-half points kept UConn close, though the Huskies still trailed, 32-29, at halftime.
Pitt padded its lead early with strong inside play, as Wanamaker's layup made it 43-33 less than four minutes in.
The Panthers hit a five-minute cold stretch later on, and the hosts made things competitive with 10 straight points. Dyson's driving layup put the Huskies on top 47-46 just past the midway point and it stayed competitive until Pitt pulled away late.
Game Notes
Pitt has won five straight road games dating back to last season...The Huskies hold a 30-27 advantage in the all-time series with the Panthers, who have closed the gap a bit with four wins in the last five meetings...Gary McGhee had eight points and nine rebounds for Pitt, which had almost as many offensive boards (19) as defensive caroms (21)...Gavin Edwards had 10 rebounds for UConn, which was beaten on the glass, 40-31.

Albert Pujols to be This Year's Home Run Champ Says Online Sportsbook
Barry Bonds is a 50-1 long shot to be this year's home run champ odds. The favorite to be this year's home run champ is none other than Albert Pujols, however.
Now that Barry Bonds is signed and in Giants camp, it is on to his pursuit of all of sports most prestigious records: the all-time home run mark. Bonds sits just 21 homers shy of tying Hank Aaron for the career mark at 755. Word out of Giants’ camp is that Bonds is the healthiest he has been in a few years. Bonds is just two seasons removed from his injury riddled 2005 campaign where he played in only 14 games and hit only 5 home runs. He did come back last year and had a solid season hitting .270 with 26 bombs. All eyes will be on Bonds this spring and summer not only because of his home run chase but his highly publicized steroid abuse allegations. If and when Bonds breaks the record, he surely will not get the positive attention one should for breaking a record that was once thought of as “unbreakable”. Despite Bonds decent season last year, he is just 50-1 at MySportsbook.com to lead the MLB in long balls this season.
Not surprisingly, the favorites to go deep the most times this season are Albert Pujols 5-1, Ryan Howard 6-1, David Ortiz 8-1 and Alex Rodriguez 12-1. With 49 homers, Pujols finished second in the National League behind Howard (58). Pujols is considered the favorite due to the consistent power numbers that he has posted since breaking into the league in 2001. Also one must consider the fact that he played in 16 fewer games then Howard did due to an injury. Howard smashed 58 homers in his first complete season of big league play en route to the National League MVP odds award. He silenced his critics by successfully hitting left-handed pitching. Howard also displayed the ability to use his power to the opposite field. Two attributes which should keep Howard amongst the league leaders in long balls for years to come. From the American League representatives, David Ortiz leads the field. Ortiz was second in the majors last year with 54 home runs. Except for 1999 when he only played in 10 games, Ortiz has improved on his home run numbers each year he has been in the majors (1997).
